Art

2018/02/20 18:30 - 2018/02/20 18:30

Join us Tuesday, Februrary 20, 6:30 PM EST, at the New Buffalo Library for a FREE reading of “ART”, a Tony Award winning comedy by Yasmina Reza. The Dunes Summer Theatre will also announce its summer season at this event. The play, Art, centers around three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, completely white painting. Marc is horrified, and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes “art”. Yvan, caught in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify both of them. Readers include Richard Westphal, Robert Thorson, and Jeffrey Baumgartner. Light refreshments will be available.
Address: 33 N Thompson St, New Buffalo, MI 49117

Open Discussion & Free Lecture

2018/02/26 20:00 - 2018/02/26 20:00

“Heath Ledger died from method acting.” Unfortunately, too many people think Method is all about wallowing in emotion: pain, self-pity, self-indulgence, being out of control, and selfishness. Time and time again when people label what some actor has done to prepare for a role, they call it ‘method.’ Unfortunately, this is not accurate. It is not a dangerous system of acting that is unrepeatable and created specifically for film. It’s derived primarily from the work of Stanislavski, Eugene Vahktangov, and Meyerhold, and it can be used without making trips to the mental hospital. It is the most misunderstood, misrepresented and mis-taught of all acting techniques. Come out and discover the truths and expose the myths with Lisa Formosa-Parmigiano — a Life Member of the Actors Studio.

Time Traveler’s Jubilee: The Indiana Dunes

2018/05/17 12:30 - 2018/05/17 12:30

Performances At 10:30 AM And 12:30 PM On Thursday, May 17, 2018. Presented By The Family Folklore Foundation & Memorial Opera House. All seats are $5.00.

Our time machine will take to life around the time of the Civil War…you know, when the Memorial Opera House was built by veterans. That’s when President Abe Lincoln gets the ball moving to protect America’s Wonders, including our beautiful Lake Michigan sand dunes.

Visit the Theater of Imagination (also known as the radio play) about Hoosier Heroes with cameo appearances from Stephen Mathers, Colonel Leiber, Diana of the Dunes and Gene Stratton Porter. Enjoy a rollick with the woodland plant and animal puppet show. Sing the chorus along with the South Shore Brass Band Quintet to “Back Home Again In Indiana” and “The Moonlight Shines Tonight Along The Wabash”. Take home a Time Travelers’ Home Companion booklet about the Duneland heroes, plants and animals; and also learn about how the Family Folklore Foundation, Inc. actors and puppeteers created this wonderful trek back in time.
