GRITTY COMEDY/DRAMA: Sam Shepard has always been a CST favorite and Fool for Love gives audiences a look at an earlier work that led to him becoming one of America’s greatest living playwrights. In a seedy motel room on the edge of the Mojave Desert, the story is set for May and Eddie, two lovers who can’t live with or without each other. Surrounded by ghosts of their pasts and a mysterious old man who sits in a corner of the stage, they must survive the passions and volatility that keep drawing them together.

The tragic, true story of the trial and lynching of a man wrongly accused of murder is brought to theatrical life.

Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, the stirring Tony Award-winning Parade explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds. With a book by acclaimed playwright Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) and a rousing, colorful and haunting score by Jason Robert Brown (Songs For a New World, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County), Parade is a moving examination of the darkest corners of America’s history.

In 1913, Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of thirteen-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor’s false testimony seal Leo’s fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience and, eventually, his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

Daring, innovative and bold, Parade is filled with soaring music and a heart-wrenching story, offering a moral lesson about the dangers of prejudice and ignorance that should not be forgotten. Groups looking for powerful, moving theatrical experiences will need to look no further than this unforgettable show.

One of the most recognized and sought-after saxophonists, two-time GRAMMY nominee Mindi Abair has been electrifying audiences with her dynamic live performances and sax prowess since her debut album in 2000. In 2014, Mindi received her first GRAMMY nomination in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category, followed by a 2015 GRAMMY nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for her solo LP Wild Heart featuring the late Gregg Allman, Joe Perry, Trombone Shorty, Booker T. After working on her second album Wild Heart, Abair enlisted Randy Jacobs to help encapsulate the grittier rock and soul sound she was looking for. Soon after, Abair and Jacobs came together to form a dynamic live act in Mindi Abair and the Boneshakers. The band features Mindi (Saxophone, Vocals), Randy Jacobs (Guitar, Vocals), Sweet Pea Atkinson (Vocals) Rodney Lee (Keys), Derek Frank (Bass, Vocals), and Third Richardson (Drums, Vocals). Their first record together, Mindi Abair And The Boneshakers LIVE in Seattle, was released in September, 2015, and recorded at their first official show together in Seattle February 2015 to a great success, and have been touring together ever since.
Join Brightside Music in welcoming this fantastic blues and fusion band to the Opera House stage. You won’t want to miss it!
