We're delighted to host the Northwest Indiana High School Improv Invitational 2019 at Crown Point High School! We'll be featuring improv sets with schools from around the Northwest Indiana area (TBA). We invite parents, students, and the general public to join us in celebrating the entertainment provided by these talented teams!

OK. You can sing. You can improvise. You can even improvise a song or two. Now it’s time to learn how to marry your scene work to support your newly minted song so the story you’re telling before, during, and after the song is cohesive and strong. We explore the fundamental building blocks of doing long-form improvised musicals here!

About Your Instructor:
Nelson Velazquez has been involved in improvisational theatre for the last 13 years. He currently serves as head musical director for Los Improviachis, an improvised musical mariachi band along with director for The Tony Stanzas, a #NWI team that imrpovises complete one-act musicals.

He is currently the Artistic Director of Salsation Theatre Company, a 20 year old Latino theatre company specializing in sketch and improv comedy. He has trained and performed at Second City Training Center, The Annoyance Theatre, and ComedySportz Chicago and has performed with various groups across the country. He’s also a former associate producer for the Chicago Improv Festival. Nelson was also the founder of the improv program at Crown Point Community Theatre and is currently the CEO for Improductions, LLC. He's taught workshops across the country including The Baltimore Improv Festival, The Chicago Improv Festival, The San Jose Improv Festival, The San Diego Improv Festival The Trill Comedy Festival, Melanin LatinX Comedy Festival, The Nation Improv Summit, and The Grand Rapids Improv Festival. He is also serves as faculty at Second City Chicago.

The First Friday of the month we put together a great line up of stand up comedy and/or improv. This month's show features the inaugural edition of The Northwest Indiana Improv Festival featuring a stacked line up of NWI's greatest improv teams. Disposable Theatre & 9 Bad Basses from Disposable Improv will be there along with The Short Foreman from Beatniks Theater, & Improductions. Tickets can be bought on BrownPaperTickets.com at the find tickets link above. $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Doors open at 7:30! Show starts at 8:00. Music playing before & after the show.

IT’S BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVERYBODY! It’s the end of summer and we all now return the early mornings, the rush to get the kids ready for school, the writing of lesson plans, and the pure pandemonium that is education! Well, we now provide COMIC RELIEF to those who need it most – the adults!

This show will feature acts with an education slant to them. As a token of our appreciation, educators get a DISCOUNT on admission to show our appreciation for everything you do! Get ready to laugh (and cry) when you see what happens when no child gets left behind!
