HILARIOUS COMEDY: It’s 1939 and Hollywood is all abuzz! Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay just isn’t working so the Hollywood mogul who is being hounded by the film’s stars and gossip reporters, enlists the help of famed screenwriter, Ben Hecht and pulls the formidable director, Victor Fleming off the set of The Wizard of Oz to fix it. For the next five days, locked in a room on a diet of bananas and peanuts, it will be up to these three men to fashion the screenplay for one of the greatest motion pictures ever made. Based on actual events, this tale of  desperation and genius makes for an engaging and hysterical night of entertainment.

"Isn't it Romantic" deals with the post-college careers (and dilemmas) of two former classmates: a short, slightly plump would-be writer named Janie Blumberg, and her tall, thin, gorgeous WASP friend, Harriet Cornwall. Both are struggling to escape from lingering parental domination and to establish their own lives and identities. In Janie's case this leads to an inconclusive involvement with a young Jewish doctor who calls her "Monkey," while Harriet assails the world of big business and has an affair with her hard-driving (and married) boss. Told in a fast-moving series of inventive, alternately hilarious and touchingly revealing scenes, the play explores their parallel stories with uncommon wit and wisdom—resulting, ultimately, in a heightened awareness which, while not providing all the answers, goes a long way toward achieving the maturity and self-assuredness that both protagonists so desperately desire.

    Admission
    $9 - adults
    $7 - students/seniors

    NOISES OFF

A Farcical Comedy by Michael Frayn

    Directed by Jeffrey Baumgartner

    June 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and July 1, 6, 7, 8
Performances on Friday/Saturdays at 7PM & Sundays 2 PM CST

Noises Off provides a glimpse into the world of theatre. The audience will witness both the rehearsal process and what goes on behind the scenes once the curtain is raised. The play opens the night before the first performance and the cast are hopelessly unready. Baffled by entrances and exits, missed cues, missed lines, and bothersome props, including several plates of sardines, Lloyd, the director, is beyond frustrated. Seen from backstage, Act 2 provides a view of the dysfunctional relationships between the cast. Romantic rivalries, lovers' tiffs and personal quarrels lead to offstage shenanigans, onstage bedlam and the occasional attack with a fire axe. Act 3 occurs during the play's last run where relationships between the cast have frayed considerably, the set is breaking down and props are winding up in the wrong hands, on the floor, and in the way. While the actors remain determined to cover up the mounting chaos, it's not long before the plot and script are seemingly abandoned entirely in this hilarious comedy.

CLASSIC COMEDY: Full of mistaken identity, physical humor, razor sharp wordplay and robust hilarity, Much Ado About Nothing is considered to be one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies. After a successful battle, Don Pedro, the Prince of Aragon, journeys to Messina to celebrate. The festivities reunite the on again/off again relationship of Beatrice and Benedick and the handsome Claudio is smitten with Hero, the beautiful daughter of their host, Leonato. After several mishaps occur during the town’s masquerade ball, gossip and rumor run rampant, calling the honor of the young daughter into question. Complete with silliness, romance, wit and memorable characters, audiences will delight at this theatrical treasure.
