Godspell

03/04/2018 3:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Genesius Guild
Address: 6617 Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN 46324, USA

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden) and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, “Day by Day”, Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord”, “Learn Your Lessons Well”, “All for the Best”, “All Good Gifts”, “Turn Back, O Man”, “By My Side”, and “Beautiful City”.

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ message of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life. Boasting a score with chart-topping songs, a book by a visionary playwright (John-Michael Tebelak), and a feature film, Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences worldwide.

Life Is A Cabaret! The Songs Of Kander & Ebb

Performance At 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 12

Musical theatre wouldn't be what it is without the American songwriting team of composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb.  Great songs like Isn't This Better from Funny LadyAll That Jazz from Chicago, and Cabaret from...you guessed it...Cabaret only make up a fraction of their great American song book.  You'll want to make sure to attend to hear the catchy, influential music of our favorite duo.

In this infamous tale Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife.  The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice.  Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her pies that has the people of London lining up...and the carnage has only just begun!  The Memorial Opera House invites you to attend this dark, witty and Tony Award winning tale of love, murder and revenge set against the background of 19th century London.
