HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical – Book and Lyrics by James Rado & Gerome Ragni
Music by Galt McDermot
Directed by Bob Cooley
Come celebrate the sixties counterculture in all its long-haired, bell-bottomed, bare-footed, beaded, fringed and psychedelic glory. Feel the energetic rock beat of hit songs like “Aquarius,” “Good Morning Starshine,” “Hair,” “I Got Life,” and “Let the Sun Shine In” in one of the most beloved (and yes, controversial) musicals of all time. Exploring identity, community, global responsibility, and peace, HAIR remains as relevant as ever as it examines what it means to be a young person in an ever changing world. Hair debuted off-Broadway October 1967 and we honor its 50th Anniversary.
Note! Couch seats may only be reserved by calling box office, 219-464-1636, ext. 1, Tu-Sat 12N-4PM.

Victor Hugo's epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.  Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There", observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda.  Quasimodo isn't the only one captivated by her free spirit though - the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled.  As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies, and it's up to Quasimodo to save them all.  A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic.  Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden) and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, "Day by Day", Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord", "Learn Your Lessons Well", "All for the Best", "All Good Gifts", "Turn Back, O Man", "By My Side", and "Beautiful City".

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' message of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life. Boasting a score with chart-topping songs, a book by a visionary playwright (John-Michael Tebelak), and a feature film, Godspell is a sensation that continues to touch audiences worldwide.

From one of musical theatre's most exciting new composers comes ORDINARY DAYS, a refreshingly honest and funny musical about making real connections in the city that never sleeps (but probably should at some point.) ORDINARY DAYS tells the story of four young New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love and cabs. Through a score of vibrant and memorable songs, their experiences ring startlingly true to life. ORDINARY DAYS is an original musical for anyone who's ever struggled to appreciate the simple things in a complex place. With equal doses of humor and poignancy, it celebrates how 8.3 million individual stories combine in unexpected ways to make New York City such a unique and extraordinary home.

The smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, this much revived classic from the playwright of Private Lives offers up fussy and cantankerous novelist Charles Condomime who is remarried but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira, who is called up by by a visiting "happy medium", one Madame Arcati.  Elvira truly raises spirits when she makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles' marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who can neither see or hear the ghost.  Memorial Opera House is delighted to present this hauntingly funny classic, one of the first plays presented here when the Community Theatre Guild was in residence!

George Gershwin is quoted as saying "Irving Berlin is the greatest songwriter that ever lived" and Broadway choreographer and director Jerome Kern famously said "Irving Berlin has no place in American music - he is American Music".  Born May 11, 1888, Berlin's songwriting career spanned decades and produced some of the most famous songs for some of the most famous performers. Featuring patriotic songs, ragtime swing, famous movie tunes, and of course Broadway classics, we'll be celebrating Berlin's 129th birthday with plenty of song!
