The Pitch

A young, hungry writer in Hollywood finally has his chance to pitch his original ideas for movies, television shows, and commercials to a major producer. The writer’s ideas come to life on stage as he tries to sell one — just one — of his many wacky ideas. Consider (and laugh) as the writer presents previews of a big-budget movie entitled “Thumb Wars”; a reality show about mailmen called “Going Postal”; a game show with the revolting title “Guess What I Just Ate for Dinner”; and even a commercial for a new sports drink called “H2MayO: The First Drinkable Mayonnaise.” This fast-paced comedic one act will put you in the producer’s shoes as they watch pitch after hilarious pitch go down in flames.

    Done To Death

    By Fred Carmichael
Directed by Aaron and Julie Breford

Done to Death, by Fred Carmichael, is a mystery-comedy that packs in parodies of every mystery plot, hero, and villain from the golden age of film. The story alternates between reality and imagination as five mystery writers wrestle with the problem of writing a television mystery series.  All around them murders occur and each writer takes a turn at solving them in his/her own style.   Five once famous mystery writers; a couple who only write the most sophisticated of murders, a young author of the James Bond school, a retired writer of the hard hitting method, and an aging queen of the logical murder, involve the audience as they explore their own methods of investigation on a series of murders.

Even if you’re familiar with the many screen versions, Fitch includes scenes from the original novella rarely depicted on film.
